Suresh Raina has been an integral part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) since the tournament’s inception back in 2008. The southpaw played 10 seasons for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and finished as their leading run-scorer. He was also the highest run-scorer in the history of the IPL for quite a significant amount of time.

In 205 IPL matches, Suresh Raina has scored 5528 runs at an average of 32.51 and a strike rate of 136.73 with one century and as many as 39 half-centuries. When he got going, there was no stopping him. When the Super Kings were suspended for two years, the left-handed Raina captained the defunct Gujarat Lions.

In the meantime, after playing his trade at CSK for a decade, Raina won’t be a part of the team anymore. Ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, the Super Kings released him of his services. The Yellow Army retained MS Dhoni, their skipper, and all-rounders Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja before the mega auction.

Thereafter, Raina registered himself at a base price of INR 2 lakh for the auction and to his dismay, he didn’t find a buyer. It means that for the first time, the southpaw won’t be a part of the cash-rich T20 league.

After Suresh Raina stayed unsold in the IPL auction, the Super Kings dropped a post on social media, showering love and praises for the veteran batter. CSK took to Twitter and wrote, “Super Thanks for all the Yellove memories, Chinna Thala!”

Raina having a torrid time in the previous edition

Suresh Raina didn’t have the best of times in the IPL 2021. He started with a stupendous half-century against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, although his knock vent in vain. From there on, his campaign went downhill and he failed to get substantial scores under his belt.

In 12 matches, Raina scored a mere 160 runs at an average of 17.77 and a strike rate of 125 with a top score of 54. He was eventually left out of the playing eleven with Robin Uthappa replacing him. CSK went on to win the title for the fourth time in 12 seasons.
