A lot of popular Indian cricketers such as M Vijay and Ambati Rayudu announce their retirements in 2023. Every year, at least a few Indians hang up their boots from international cricket. In 2024, as well, we could see some famous names announce their decision to retire. These days, there are many post-retirement leagues for cricketers to participate in. This is an incentive for players to retire if they are not in contention to play anymore for the country. Here, we take a look at the list of four Indians who could retire from International cricket in 2024.
1) Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan was in contention to play in the 2023 ODI World Cup. However, he lost his chance and that could mean the end of Dhawan’s career in the blue jersey. Interestingly, Shikhar is also not active in domestic cricket. This clearly means that he could end his international career soon.
On the other hand, Dhawan’s IPL career will depend on how he goes about in IPL 2024. He will captain the Punjab Kings in the campaign. If Dhawan has a good run, he could continue for a few more seasons. However, if he does not do well, he might consider his IPL career, as well.
2) Dinesh Karthik
Dinesh Karthik is one of the Indians who could retire from International cricket in 2024. DK enjoyed a surprise return to the Indian Team for the 2022 T20 World Cup. However, his form since then has not been great. He will play in IPL 2024 and that could be his last attempt at getting back to the Indian Team.
DK struggled with form and fitness in IPL 2024. However, he was in good touch in the recent Vijay Hazare Trophy. RCB has retained the player and that means that DK is very much interested in getting back to the scheme of things. Hence, it will be interesting to see how he performs in IPL 2024.
3) Wriddhiman Saha
Saha has been active in domestic cricket even after getting dropped from Team India. He is also doing well in IPL. Yet again, he did well in IPL 2023. Now, all eyes would be on him in IPL 2024.
While Gujarat would start with him, this time around, they have someone like Robin Minz who can come in as a replacement. Hence, Saha will be keen to do well. Despite all of this, he could bid adieu to international cricket as his chances are very slim.
4) Amit Mishra
Amit Mishra is one of the Indians who could retire from International cricket in 2024. Not many know but Amit Mishra has still not retired from international cricket. Last year, in a surprise move, LSG picked up the player. Amit did not disappoint as he had a good run with some important wickets.
However, in a more surprising move, Amit Mishra was retained by LSG before IPL 2024 Auctions. He will play in IPL 2024 and that might be the end of his IPL career. That said, spinners are usually not affected by age and if Amit does well, he can fancy one or two more seasons in the tournament.
