BCCI will soon start the procedure to appoint a new Head Coach. As per reports, Rahul Dravid is unlikely to re-apply for this role. Irrespective of what happens at the 2024 T20 World Cup, India needs to make some bold calls in appointing the next Head Coach. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three bold calls BCCI can take while appointing a new Head Coach.

1) Adopt a split-coaching model

With all three formats having equal prominence in the next few years, India must consider a split approach. Especially with the depth of talent in the country, role clarity becomes key.

For this to happen, it would be advisable to have two different coaches for two different teams. England is adopting this approach and is finding success. This would give better vision and workload management to the team.

2) Appoint a younger foreign coach with fresh ideas

Appointing a younger foreign coach with fresh ideas is one of the bold calls BCCI can take when appointing a new Head Coach. It will all come down to the interviews of the candidates but India must provide extra weightage to a young foreign coach this time around.

They are more tuned to the demands of the modern game. For instance, the appointment of Brendon McCullum was a big success for the ECB. Similarly, India could try some options in this regard.

3) Appoint a Director of Cricket along with the Head Coach

India is a massive country with a lot of opinions and the depth is also immense. At times, it could become hard to focus on one aspect.

In this regard, having a Director of Cricket could be of great use. This candidate must focus completely on the vision of the game and must manage the commercial and other demands of the Indian squad. This is always a bold call because India has not had this structure in recent times.
