‘Virat Kohli will open the match alongside Rohit Sharma’-Saba Karim on the opening combination against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022

Saba Karim, who served as a member of India’s selection committee in the past, believes that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli might share the opening spot for India in the Asia Cup match against Pakistan on August 28.

After a lengthy absence, it was reported that KL Rahul would be rejoining the Indian cricket squad. As a result, he will need some time to bounce back to form after his disappointing performances in Zimbabwe (1 and 30 runs in two matches).

What did Saba Karim say about the opening combination of India in the Asia Cup 2022?

Speaking to India News, Karim said: “Virat Kohli will open the match alongside Rohit Sharma. It is a choice that can be made. If this does occur, it indicates that India is also attempting to maintain Dinesh Karthik in the playing eleven of their team.”

He added: “KL Rahul has resumed his participation in international cricket, although he was unable to rediscover his form in the one-day internationals that were played against Zimbabwe. Because it is taking him some time to [get back into the rhythm], Kohli and Rohit may end up starting against Pakistan.”

On the other hand, Karim said that KL Rahul should be given more batting chances since, if he regains his form, the Indian batting lineup would be in better shape.

He said: “Having said that, I believe that KL Rahul has the necessary experience as well as the pedigree. These guys need to have chances presented to them. If both of our big players, KL and Rohit Sharma, perform well at the Asia Cup, no one else will have a batting lineup that is as formidable as ours.”
