“Sky will falter a couple of times before learning…” – Shikhar Dhawan backs Suryakumar to bounce back strongly

Team India last won the ODI World Cup back in 2011 when the Men in Blue beat Sri Lanka to win the second ODI World Cup. However, since then, India ran through serious selection issues which backfired them.

In the 2019 World Cup, India didn’t find the appropriate solution for the No.4 spot and paid the price. It was a void that the team management failed to fix in the first place. India were knocked out of the semi-finals by New Zealand in that mega event.

With the 2023 ODI World slated to be held in India later this year in the October-November window, the same subject of No.4 is being discussed again. With just six months left in store, India haven’t been able to find a reliable No.4 batter.

Of course, Shreyas Iyer is the preferred batsman for this rule. However, there is no telling when he will make a comeback to the team and it all depends on his recovery and fitness.

Shikhar Dhawan backs Suryakumar to bounce back strongly

When Shreyas Iyer opted out of the home ODI series against Australia, the team management decided to experiment with the No.1 T20I batter, Suryakumar Yadav.

Needless to say, the right-handed batsman failed miserably in the ODI series as he was dismissed on the very first delivery he faced in all three games. Thus, he became the first Indian batter to register three golden ducks on the trot.

Meanwhile, India’s veteran cricketer, Shikhar Dhawan, who is currently out of the team’s plans backed Suryakumar Yadav to bounce back strongly by adding that the latter performed consistently for the last couple of years.

While speaking to Aaj Tak, Shikhar Dhawan felt that Suryakumar Yadav lacked the experience factor to tackle the challenge in the ODI series. According to him, Suryakumar Yadav might fail a couple of times before picking up the lessons.
