At the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah on Friday, September 2, Group A teams headed by Babar Azam of Pakistan and Nizakat Khan of Hong Kong competed in the sixth match of the Asia Cup 2022.
In the first-ever Twenty20 international between these two teams, the Pakistan National Cricket Team prevailed against the Hong Kong National Cricket Team by a score of 155 runs to go on to the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup. This was Pakistan’s first win in a Twenty20 International in the year 2022. In addition, Pakistan’s victory against Hong Kong by 155 runs is the largest winning margin in the history of Twenty20 Internationals, while Hong Kong’s total of 38/10 against Pakistan is the lowest score ever recorded in a Twenty20 International match involving a Full Member Nation.
After winning the coin toss, the Hong Kong team decided to field first. Despite the game’s high stakes, neither team made any changes to their starting eleven.
The Pakistani team got off to a shaky start in the match when they lost Babar Azam’s wicket in the very first over of the game, when their score was 13. Ehsan Khan, a veteran off-spinner, was the player who took the most wickets in the men’s T20 Asia Cup Qualifier. Khan was responsible for the dismissal of the Pakistan captain for 9 runs. The runs for the Men in Green were 40-1 as the powerplay came to a conclusion.
Pakistan managed to beat Hong Kong Kong
During this time, Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman finished their partnerships with 50 runs in 43 balls and 100 runs in 73 balls, respectively. After Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman had put on 116 runs together, the senior off-spinner Ehsan Khan removed Fakhar Zaman from the game with the first delivery of the 17th over. Fakhar Zaman was out for 53.
Mohammad Rizwan’s excellent knock of 78 runs and Khushdil Shah’s remarkable performance of quickfire 35 runs contributed to Pakistan’s final total of 193/2. In the 20th over, Hong Kong bowler Aizaz Khan allowed 29 runs to be scored against him.
Hong Kong got off to a terrible start in their pursuit of the target because they were unable to survive against the formidable pace bowling squad that Team Pakistan had. The powerplay for HKG came to a conclusion with the score at 25/3 when the young pacer Naseem Shah had Babar Hayat and Nizakat Khan removed, and Shahnawaz Dahani had Yasim Murtaza clean bowled.
After ten overs, Nizakat Khan and Company were reduced to 38/8 after suffering the loss of the next five wickets in rapid succession. The bowlers from Pakistan continued to exert their dominance, and as a result, they were able to knock Hong Kong out for 38.
