Danish Kaneria, a former leg-spinner for Pakistan, believes that Virat Kohli should have taken a break from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at about the halfway point so that he could concentrate on international cricket.

The former captain of the Indian cricket team ended up playing the full season with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Since then, he has only made infrequent appearances for the Indian national team.

Since the conclusion of the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League, Virat Kohli has only participated in five of Team India’s matches. These matches all took place when India was on tour in England. The cricketer from Delhi did not go with the team when they played South Africa in their home series, nor did they take him to Zimbabwe or the West Indies on their trips.

What did Danish Kaneria say about Virat Kohli?

Kaneria, reminiscing on the fact that the right-handed batter persevered to play in the IPL even though he was not in excellent form, said the following in an interview with Cricket Next:

“Virat, you poor guy. During the Twenty20 World Cup in 2021, he was not doing well and his squad was also struggling. Because he can’t miss international cricket, Virat Kohli should have skipped the second half of the Indian Premier League. Even during the IPL, he was out of form since he was forced to play an excessive amount of matches.”

The star batsman finished the season with 341 runs, an average of 22.73, and a strike rate of 115.99. The runs were scored throughout 16 games during the season. In the beginning, he was the No. 3 player for the team, which placed him behind Faf du Plessis and Anuj Rawat. He was elevated to the opening position in the order in the middle of the season, but this did not result in a change in their good luck.

Indian players have been quite active in the current English county season. Their presence has been welcomed. On the conventional circuit, players like Navdeep Saini, Umesh Yadav, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Krunal Pandya, amongst others, are enjoying a great deal of success in their professional careers.
