India’s talented wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson finally broke into the playing XI for the T20I opener against the Sri Lankan cricket team at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai after warming the bench for most matches.

Needless to say, the right-handed batter failed to capitalize on the chances as he scored just five runs off six balls. The batsman came under fire for his poor shot selection which cost his wicket inside the powerplay overs.

Had he played a bit more sensibly, he would have tackled the Sri Lankan bowling attack. As far as his fielding efforts are concerned, he dropped a catch but went on to take two good catches on the field.

According to Cricbuzz, Sanju Samson has been asked to stay back in Mumbai for scans of niggle on his knee, which also puts doubts on his participation in the second T20I against Sri Lanka.

Earlier, Team India got the better of Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lankan cricket team by two runs and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series. The players of both teams must have prepared pretty well today for the second game, which is slated to be played on January 5 in Pune.

There was no doubt that the first T20I was so tight and it would have gone either way. However, the Men in Blue pulled off the ropes from the jaws of defeat in clutch moments. Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya and Co will be looking forward to approaching the second T20I with a much better game plan with a view to winning the series.
