India’s stand-in captain Shikhar Dhawan led the team from the front for the three-match ODI series against the New Zealand cricket team. The first ODI went in favour of Kane Williamson and Co as they won the game by 7 wickets.

However, the second game was marred by the rain gods and as a result, the game ended in the form of a no result. The third and final game of the series took place at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

Batting first, Team India were bundled out for 219 inside 48 overs. Washington Sundar was the pick of the batters for the Indian cricket team after he chipped in with 51 runs to his name including 5 fours and a six.

On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer scored 49 runs to his name including eight boundaries. New Zealand pacers namely Adam Milne and Daryl Mitchell bowled ever so well and accounted for 3 dismissals apiece.

As a captain, it is always important to think out of the box in order to scoop out a positive or decent result. When India were bowled out for a low-scoring total, it was quite obvious that New Zealand would easily chase down the total, given the way they started the game.

New Zealand’s opening pair Finn Allen and Devon Conway who failed to turn up the heat in the first ODI went on to tear the Indian bowling unit apart by scoring runs at a pretty good pace.

The duo added 97 runs for the opening wicket before Umran Malik dismissed Finn Allen for 57 runs. Well, Shikhar Dhawan cleverly used the bowlers in such a way that the 20-over benchmark was not completed before the rain interrupted the passage of play.

The skipper used three seamers and one spinner. He used Umran Malik, Deepak Chahar, Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik. Had Dhawan used Yuzvendra Chahal earlier, then the 20-over benchmark would have been completed and the game would have ended in favour of New Zealand. However, India bowled 18 overs before the rain played spoilsport and hence the game ended in the form of a no result.
