The former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar is not happy at all with the constant usage of the term “workload management” for the star Indian players.

After India got knocked out from the semi-final round of the T20 World Cup 2022, Sunil Gavaskar was furious about the fact that the star Indian players are regularly rested from international cricket in the name of workload management, but none of them ever opts to rest himself in the IPL.

According to Gavaskar, who was speaking on Star Sports, the Indian players have to play a lot of games in the IPL as well and there is a workload there too, but there is never a word about workload management in the IPL. But, this word always floats around in international cricket.

The senior Indian players have been rested again for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand and before that, they were rested for many bilateral series in the middle phase of this year before all of them eventually returned in the Asia Cup.

Players should play regularly for India: Sunil Gavaskar

The reason behind resting the players for New Zealand T20Is, however, might be different. There are reports that BCCI now wants to move on from senior players in T20I cricket and the players, who have been rested for the New Zealand tour, might not return if the youngsters grab their chances.

Hardik Pandya, who has been named the captain for New Zealand T20Is, is also rumored to be someone whom BCCI is looking at as a T20I captain from a long-term point of view.

Sunil Gavaskar is of the opinion that whichever group of players the selectors want to go with, those players need to play regularly for the Indian team and the usage of this term workload management for the star Indian players all the time needs to be stopped.
