ICC has finally revealed the 9-players shortlist for the Player of the tournament award of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 and it comprises of many worthy candidates for the trophy. Virat Kohli is definitely at the top of that list and the favorite of fans to clinch it. He gave a brilliant performance in the tournament and had been India’s one man army till the semi-final. Even though they got kicked out of the tournament by England in the second semi-final, we can not deny the fact that he is still the highest run scorer of the tournament till now. However, England captain Jos Buttler thinks otherwise. He thinks that Suryakumar Yadav deserves the trophy more.

Let us first take a look at the shortlist.

  1. Virat Kohli
  2. Suryakumar Yadav
  3. Shadab Khan
  4. Shaheen Afridi
  5. Sam Curran
  6. Jos Buttler
  7. Alex Hales
  8. Sikandar Raza
  9. Wanindu Hasaranga

Jos Buttler had earlier said it as well that Suryakumar Yadav has impressed him a lot in this tournament. The middle order batsman was the only Indian player apart from Virat Kohli who stepped up when the team needed him the most. His knocks against South Africa and Zimbabwe were really memorable. Some of the shots he played also easily made him the most entertaining player to watch in the tournament so far.

Suryakumar Yadav has the second highest runs in the Super 12 after Virat Kohli. Although it is true that he has played well, it is highly unlikely for him to win the match over Virat Kohli this year as King Kohli was just too good.

Sadly, Sky could not play well in the recently played semi-final between India and England. He is not to be blamed for the loss though as that was due to the combined failure of our bowling lineup who did not challenge the English openers at all.
