The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the richest cricket body in the world. Having said that the board generates immense revenue through media and broadcasting rights, IPL and international rights, jersey sales and so on, it also produces quality cricketers.
Legendary cricketers including Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag, Anil Kumble, Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni, Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri are all from India.
While the aforementioned players have already called it quits from the game, current players such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been dominating the game by leading the batting attack by example.
On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have been the most consistent bowlers for India in the long run. However, all these players who earned their spots in the Indian cricket team performed consistently well in First Class cricket.
This helped them earn a call-up to the national team. Moreover, they have proved that they are worth their weight in gold by doing well for India across all three formats of the game.
India cap shouldn’t be given easily and quickly, it should be earned: Wasim Jaffer
Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer, Wasim Jaffer said the Indian cap should not be given too easily and quickly because the spot in the team should be earned in the first place.
The former cricketer added that the selectors don’t need to pick the player who performs well in the first season to avoid selection dilemmas in the future. Jaffer echoed that the players need to perform consistently for two to three seasons of the IPL, including in the First Class cricket.
The former cricketer added that the players need to be fully ready so that there is no confusion about the selection dilemma. The upcoming season of the IPL will see plenty of budding Indian talents in action and they will be looking forward to showcasing their fortitude.
Selectors don't need to pick whoever does well in their 1st IPL season. Let them perform consistently for 2-3 seasons in FC too. Let them be fully ready. That's a reason we confuse ourselves with selection dilemma. Ind cap shouldn't be given easily & quickly. It should be earned.Advertisement
