“Rishabh and Gill opening”, Twitter reacts as Irfan Pathan wants Rishabh Pant as an opener for T20I’s

Team India had many problems in T20 World Cup 2022 which ultimately led to their downfall. One of those problems was definitely the wicketkeeper’s choice. Head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma had a hard time trying to figure out who to keep in the playing XI – Dinesh Karthik or Rishabh Pant. While Dinesh Karthik got the obvious preference in the first few matches due to his good performances in the past few tournaments, he performed horribly in the world cup and thus Rishabh Pant was brought in the last two matches. Unfortunately, he was equally poor and India suffered with their Wicketkeeper’s selection overall in the World Cup.

However, Rishabh Pant is only going through a rough patch and once he gets his long lost form back, he will again regain his spot as India’s wicketkeeper of choice. In the long run, Rishabh Pant is the way to go after all and we all know that. However, Irfan Pathan has recently come up with a piece of very interesting advice about how to make the best use of Rishabh Pant in T20I cricket.

The former Indian cricketer has said that Rishabh Pant should be used as an opener and not a finisher in T20 cricket. In his earlier days at Delhi Capitals and even in his U-19 days, Rishabh Pant used to play as an opener and thus it will not be anything new for him. It was only after his selection in the national team that Rishabh Pant slowly became a middle-order batsman and then a finisher.

Seeing him at the top of the batting lineup will be an interesting dynamic that team India can explore before the next edition of the tournament.

Rishabh Pant is already a vital cog in the Indian test team and he will be a pivotal part in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup in 2023 as well. However, he has to work on his form ahead of that.
