The 38th match of IPL 2023 between Lucknow Super Giants and Punjab Kings has witnessed a staggering performance from the LSG batters during the passage of play.
Punjab Kings won the toss and opted to bowl first at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali. It was one heck of a run-fest as Lucknow Super Giants’ batters spared no mercy on the Punjab Kings’ bowlers.
Plenty of batters turned up the heat and delivered the goods when it mattered the most on a very good batting track. However, the Lucknow-based franchise switched gears and scored runs at a rapid pace, courtesy of some power-hitting by Kyle Mayers, Ayush Badoni, Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran.
Lucknow Super Giants post second highest total in IPL history
At one stage, it seems that they were en route to posting 200-plus total but these batters ensured to escalate the team’s scoreboard by scoring at around 13 run an over as they posted 257/5 in 20 overs.
It is worth mentioning here that Lucknow Super Giants posted the second-highest total in the history of the Indian Premier League. Royal Challengers Bangalore still hold the record for scoring the highest-ever total of 263/5 against Pune Warriors back in 2013.
Talking about LSG’s innings, Kyle Mayers set up the platform by scoring a quickfire 54 off 24 balls where he struck seven fours and four sixes to his name at a strike rate of 225.
On the other hand, Marcus Stoinis top-scored with 72 off 40 balls including six fours and five sixes. LSG wicketkeeper-batsman, Nicholas Pooran scored 45 off 19 balls including seven fours and a six whereas Ayush Badoni scored 43 off 24 balls (3 fours, 3 sixes).
