The 31st match of the Indian Premier League 2022 season entertained one and all last night. The DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai played host to a special game where the Royal Challengers Bangalore beat the Lucknow Super Giants by 18 runs. However, there was a controversial decision made by the umpire during the second last over of the game regarding a wide delivery.

RCB received an invitation to bat first from LSG skipper KL Rahul. The Super Giants got off to a terrific start as both Anuj Rawat and Virat Kohli lost their wickets in the first over of the match. Soon after, Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis rescued the innings of the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Skipper du Plessis held one end and scored 96 runs for his new team. Shahbaz Ahmed and Dinesh Karthik backed him up with decent cameos. In the end, RCB finished with 181 runs in their 20 overs. Chasing 182 to register their fifth win of the season, LSG scored 163 runs in their 20 overs for the loss of eight wickets.

In the 19th over of the innings bowled by Josh Hazlewood, the first ball pitched outside off and it was outside the tramline. It seemed like the umpire would give it a wide, but he didn’t because the batter Marcus Stoinis had shuffled a bit.

On the next ball, an angry Stoinis lost his wicket. Here’s what Hazlewood had to say about that incident after the match ended:

“I tried to turn around and give it back to Marcus as quickly as I could but I got a bit lucky with that one. I’m really enjoying it particularly at the start and at this ground. Wankhede’s got some good bounce but here at DY, it’s unreal with the new ball.”
