KL Rahul has been in top form when playing against five-time champions Mumbai Indians in the IPL. He became the first player to score two centuries against the same team in IPL 2022 last night while leading the Lucknow Super Giants against the Mumbai-based franchise. Rahul lost the toss and received an invitation to bat first.
The Lucknow Super Giants started slow. Most of the LSG batters struggled to get going, but KL Rahul accelerated after settling down in the middle. Even though his partners lost wickets at regular intervals, he held one end and remained in the middle till the last ball. Rahul ended with 103 runs on the board.
His strike rate was 166 in the 62-ball knock, where he hit 12 fours and four sixes. Thanks to his excellent innings, the Lucknow Super Giants posted 168 runs on the board in their 20 overs. LSG went on to win the match by 36 runs. Rahul was adjudged the Player of the Match, and he also won five other awards at the post-match presentation.
When Harsha Bhogle asked him about the awards he won along with the prize money for them, Rahul gave a cheeky response and said:
“I’ll have to make up for all the over-rates and fines I’m getting after the game. I think I’m going to get a cut for the over-rate this game.”
KL Rahul reveals the one thing he wanted from team owners at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction
In the same interview, Rahul disclosed that he and the team owners had a clear vision heading into the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. The Lucknow Super Giants wanted to sign multi-utility players.
“We were very clear going into the auction – I am very big on having all-rounders in the team. They add a lot of balance. We’re lucky to have some of the finest in our team,” Rahul concluded.
