The cricket community engages in a number of arguments and discussions on a regular basis around the topic of Muttiah Muralidaran vs Shane Warne being the best spinners in the history of the game, but they never arrive at the correct conclusion. In terms of statistics, Muralidaran is now in the lead, but Warne has been much more effective in situations that are unique to other countries. Therefore, there are seldom any constructive conclusions reached throughout the debates.

Since Warne passed away in the early part of 2022, the whole cricketing community is still in disbelief, and Muralidaran, who was his long-time adversary, still gets sad when talking about him. When asked about Warne, the ex-Sri Lankan international said that the leg-spinner was definitely better than him and that he misses him a great deal.

What did Muttiah Muralidaran say about Shane Warne?

“When I was playing, I admired him and tried to model my play after him since I thought he was a greater player than I was,” said Muralidaran.

Warne has taken 1001 wickets over all of his international appearances, whereas Muralidaran has taken 1347 wickets across all of his international appearances. The two have participated in several charity events in the United States where they played cricket together.

The legendary cricketer from Sri Lanka showered accolades on the most prominent spinner now playing for his country, Wanindu Hasaranga. Hasaranga was an overwhelming match winner for Sri Lanka at the Asia Cup, and for his game-changing deliveries, Hasaranga was also adjudged to be the Player of the Tournament. As a result of his extraordinary skill with the bat and ball, Sri Lanka was able to triumph against Pakistan on the night of the finals and claim their sixth Asia Cup championship overall.
