Shakib Al Hasan has carved out a reputation for himself as one of the best all-rounders in the world. He has been one of the important parts of Bangladesh’s cricket history. Moreover, he has been one of the backbones of the team.
Time and again, he has played impactful knocks and taken important wickets for the Bangladesh cricket team as a utility player. He is also one of the most underrated cricketers in the world and doesn’t get the credit he deserves.
Even if he fails to deliver the goods with the bat, he makes amends by weaving the magic with the ball. He is the captain of the Bangladesh cricket team in Tests and Twenty20 Internationals.
Notably, he was the number 1 ranked all-rounder in One-Day Internationals and widely acknowledged as one of the greatest all-rounders of all time. Bangladesh cricket team is blessed to have a player like him.
Shakib Al Hasan set to create a milestone in ODIs
Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s most-experienced cricketer is currently engaged in a home assignment against England. For the record, England’s tour of Bangladesh comprises three ODIs and as many T20Is.
The first two ODIs ended in favour of England as the visitors won the ODI series. However, the hosts won the third ODI to steer clear of a whitewash. Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan is all set to create a milestone in ODIs.
In fact, he is 24 runs away from creating a new record. If he accomplishes this feat in the next ODI, then he will become only the third player to have the rare double of 7000 runs and 300 wickets in ODIs.
Currently, Shakib Al Hasan has scored 6976 runs including nine centuries and 52 fifties in ODIs. On the other hand, he has already taken 300 wickets in the 50-over format. He accomplished the feat in the dead rubber against England where he ended up with four wickets to his name and helped his team avoid a whitewash.
He should ideally have had a World Cup man of the tournament award sitting on his bookshelf.
