Earlier, in the IPL 2008 season, the Punjab franchise made it to the semi-finals and lost to Chennai Super Kings. Talking about their performances in the last season, they failed to qualify for the playoffs and ended up in sixth place on the points table with seven wins and seven defeats.

Shikhar Dhawan is leading the team from the front for this season. Under his captaincy, Punjab Kings kick-started their campaign with a win over Kolkata Knight Riders. PBKS won the game by seven wickets (DLS method).

Meanwhile, former Indian bowling all-rounder, Irfan Pathan spoke about Punjab Kings’ skipper, Shikhar Dhawan ahead of the upcoming fixture between Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati.

The former CSK player echoed that Shikhar Dhawan needs to prove himself as a skipper this year. While speaking to Star Sports, Irfan Pathan further added that it is absolutely essential for Dhawan to up his ante with the bat.

Shikhar Dhawan is already the second-leading run-getter in the history of the IPL with over 6000 plus runs. Irfan Pathan reckons that the experienced campaigner, Dhawan will prove that he is the real Gabbar of Indian cricket.

Irfan Pathan is totally aware of the fact that Dhawan has been in and out of the Indian team setup and which is why it is absolutely vital for Dhawan to make a bold statement this year as a captain and batsman.
