The KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer has offered clarification on the earlier comment that he had made about the KKR CEO Venky Mysore.
KKR won the last night’s game against Sunrisers Hyderabad and kept their hopes alive in IPL 2022, but before the game, there was a slight controversy in the KKR ranks because Shreyas Iyer had said publicly that not just the captain and the coach of the team, but KKR’s CEO was also involved in team selections.
It was a statement that was not taken well by the KKR fans who were already quite disappointed with KKR’s inconsistency this season. When they heard that there was interference from the management and the captain and the coach weren’t able to pick the playing XI freely, the disappointment reached another level and it turned into a bit of anger.
But, after the victory against SRH last night, Shreyas Iyer clarified his statement and said that what he meant by CEO’s involvement in the team’s selection is that CEO consoles the players who are not picked in the playing XI or get left out from the playing XI. His involvement doesn’t mean that he is telling the captain and the coach who to pick and who not to.
Clarification by Shreyas Iyer seems to have settled things down now
This clarification has now settled things down a little bit and KKR also seems to gather momentum now with two back to back wins, but the playoffs qualification still seems far away for them, because not only do they need another win in their last game, they need plenty of other results to go their way.
In the situation, KKR finds itself in currently, if they make it to the playoffs from here, they should consider themselves lucky because the maximum they can reach is 14 points. They would be hoping not more than three teams in the league reach more than 14 points and then they have the best net run rate among all those teams who are below the top 3.
