Hence, it was expected that Pakistan will have it easy in the first ODI at Lahore. However, the game ended with the Aussies winning the encounter by 88 runs. Travis Head, who opened the batting, was in top touch as he made 101 runs in just 72 deliveries. He was aided by the likes of Ben McDermott and Cameron Green, who came up with crucial knocks. Australia ended the first innings at 313-7.

Considering the state of the pitch, Pakistan had a good chance to win the game. They also started well. Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam stitched a vital partnership. While the former got a century, the captain got out for 57. However, from then on, it was a collapse for the home team. Pakistan was bundled out for 225 and the Aussies notched up a comfortable win. With this, they go 0-1 up in the series.
