Former Pakistani paceman Wasim Akram was one of the important pillars of the Pakistan cricket team during the playing days of his cricketing journey. He used to terrorize the opposition teams with impactful bowling spells.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time, Wasim Akram still carried the record of the leading wicket-taker of Pakistan. He is also the sixth-leading wicket-taker in the world.
Notably, he has taken a record 916 wickets (414 wickets in Tests and 502 wickets in ODIs) in international cricket. Wasim Akram is the second leading wicket-taker in the history of One-Day Internationals after Muttiah Muralitharan (534).
It is also worth mentioning here that Wasim Akram has bagged a total of 25 fifers in the longest format of the game. On the other hand, he has taken 6 fifers in One-Day Internationals.
Wasim Akram recalls how Indians provided much-needed support
Meanwhile, the former paceman has recalled a chilling tale that happened in 2009 when he was helpless at that time but it was the Chennai people who provided the much-needed support in the need of the hour for him.
In an interview with Sportstar, Wasim Akram said he wouldn’t forget this moment. Recalling the moment, Akram said he was travelling to Singapore with his late wife.
In fact, there was a stop in Chennai where the flight landed and it was when Akram’s wife fell unconscious, which triggered panic. In fact, Wasim Akram and his wife didn’t have Indian visas.
However, the officials told him nothing to worry about. They offered a great deal of support to Akram and his wife in that crisis. The officials took Akram’s wife to the hospital and helped her get the right treatment and medication.
Wasim Akram highlighted that he will never forget this moment in his career and couldn’t be any happier after he got support from the Indians.
Wasim Akram (in Sportstar) said "I was flying to Singapore with my late wife, there was stop in Chennai, when we landed, she was unconscious, we didn't had Indian visa but officials told me nothing to worry, we will take to the hospital, this I will never forget this".
