Australia’s Test specialist Marnus Labuschagne has been in surreal form in the longest format of the game for a long time now. The right-handed batsman was the leading run-scorer in the Test series against West Indies recently.
The star batsman made his presence count in both the Tests against West Indies as he aggregated 502 runs in 2 games at an impeccable batting average of 167.33. He smashed two centuries against the West Indies cricket team.
On top of that, he also scored his third double Test century during the first Test in Perth. Meanwhile, he is currently part of the ongoing Test series against South Africa.
Gabba pitch wasn’t up to the mark for Test cricket: Marnus Labuchagne
Meanwhile, Australia’s Test batsman Marnus Labuchagne added that Gabba’s pitch wasn’t up to the mark for the longest format of the game. His comments came after the first Test between Australia and South Africa finished within two days itself.
The first Test between both teams had plenty of twists and turns on a tricky wicket. South Africa were bundled out for 152 runs. In response, Australia were bowled out for 218 runs in the first innings.
Proteas had a chance to take a healthy lead in the second innings but they quickly fell prey to Australian bowlers. In the end, the visitors were bowled out for a mere 99 in the second innings.
South Africa set up a target of 34 for the hosts. In response, Australia felt some nerves after losing two wickets for nine runs. However, the hosts largely benefitted from the extras (19 runs).
The hosts lost two more wickets but went on to win the game by six wickets at The Gabba in Brisbane and as a result, they took the first lead in the three-match Test series. The second Test between Australia and South Africa will be played on December 26 at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne.
