T20 format can be ruthless. Especially when you’re a bowler, a single over can either make you a hero or it might be devastating. The main aim of every batsman is to score runs and create pressure on the fielding team and target their bowlers. It is also said that the first over can set the momentum of the game and mostly in IPL every match is pressurizing. Everyone knows the importance of playing and dominating in the Indian Premier League. If a bowler can set the momentum in the first over then it turns out to be an absolute advantage for the team but on many occasions, things are vice versa where the batsman sets the tone from the very first ball to create pressure on the bowler. This article will discuss 4 bowlers who bowled the most expensive First Over in the IPL.

4) Varun Aaron – 23 runs (2019)

Rajasthan Royals fast bowler Varun Aaron was smashed for 23 runs in 2019. The batsmen at the crease were Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. Due to rain, the match was deducted from 20 overs to 5 overs. Virat and AB looked destructive, and everyone knows how ruthless this duo can be.

And surely Varun Aaron comes in our list of bowlers who bowled the most expensive first over in IPL.

3) Shivam Mavi – 25 runs (2021)

Shivam Mavi is one of the finest bowlers and has been impressive in IPL and helped India to clinch the U19 world cup under Prithvi Shaw’s captaincy. But who knew one day these 2 teammates will play against each other in IPL and his U19 captain will score 6 consecutive boundaries in the very first over of the second innings. As compared to 2020 Prithvi Shaw looked in great touch and was playing aggressively. But in that match vs KKR, everyone saw his confidence in that over.

Shivam Mavi was bowling some quicker deliveries, and Shaw was comfortable hitting and finding gaps in the first over. Shaw showed that he’s there to help Delhi Capitals to win that match and impressed everyone and scored 24 runs with the bat and Mavi also bowled a wide delivery, so the final score was 25.

2) Harbhajan Singh – 26 runs (2013)

Harbhajan Singh was a part of Mumbai Indians in 2013 and was the main bowler for their squad. But that day KKR openers had some other plans to take him on. Harbhajan was bowling against Yusuf Pathan and Gautam Gambhir. Bringing an off-spinner in front of Yusuf Pathan is not a good choice for the opposition.

KKR still defeated by magnificent Mumbai Indians as the team had a good set of batsmen who helped to defeat KKR but still, Harbhajan Singh’s over did help KKR set a momentum, but they only managed to score 159 runs in 20 overs.

1) Abu Nechim – 27 runs (2011)

In 2011 RCB openers Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal were on the crease and Mumbai Indians brought in Abu Nechim to bowl the first over, and Chris Gayle was looking terrific in that season and helped RCB to get off to a great start.
