Ever since the Indian Premier League started, franchises have trusted the foreign coaches more than the Indian coaches. It has also proven as a successful tactic because barring the likes of Ashish Nehra, not many Indian coaches found success as an IPL Head Coach. Here, we take a look at the list of three Indians you might not know were Head Coaches in the IPL.

1) Venkatesh Prasad – Royal Challengers Bengaluru

The former India pacer was the pick by RCB as the Head Coach for the first season. However, RCB finished 7th on the points table.

Interestingly, after his Head Coach stint, Venkatesh Prasad worked as a bowling coach for a number of teams. He coaches teams such as RCB, CSK and Punjab Kings, as well.

2) Robin Singh – Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians

Robin Singh is one of the Indians you might not know were Head Coaches in the IPL. For the first season, he was the Head Coach of Deccan Chargers and then, from 2010 to 2012, he was at the helm at Mumbai Indians.

In both cases, Robin Singh could not do well. After his IPL stint, he explored opportunities in other T20 leagues, as well. He was the Head Coach of UAE for a while. Recently, he rejoined the Mumbai Indians family as he became the Head Coach of MI Emirates in the ILT20.

3) Lalchand Rajput – Mumbai Indians

Lalchand Rajput was the manager of Team India when they won the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa. He also had decent experience as a Head Coach at various levels and hence, MI appointed him as the Head Coach for IPL 2008.

However, Mumbai Indians did not enjoy a good run under him. For the 2009 edition, Shaun Pollock was handed the responsibility. Lalchand Rajput did not get many chances in the IPL but he worked with teams such as Zimbabwe and also some other T20 franchises.
