Bowlers have many issues ahead of a tournament like the IPL. It is a long event and unless you are 100% fit, it is always a risk to commit to playing in the IPL. Interestingly, due to various reasons, some players had to miss the next tournament after winning the Purple Cap. Considering they had done well in the last season, it would have been disastrous for them to miss the next itself. For the team also, it would have been a major loss. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two players who won Purple Cap and immediately had to miss the next IPL season itself.

1) Sohail Tanvir

Sohail Tanvir was a surprise package in IPL 2008. Not many expected him to win the Purple Cap in the first edition. However, considering his unorthodox action and the variations that he had, it later was not a surprise that he actually won it.

That said, there was the issue with Pakistan players after IPL 2008. Since then, no Pakistan player has been a part of the tournament. Sohail Tanvir, too, did not get to play in the Indian Premier League again.

2) Mohammed Shami

Shami is one of the players who won Purple Cap and immediately had to miss the next season itself. The Indian speedster was one of the major reasons why Gujarat Titans did well in the first two seasons. While they reached the finals in 2023, they won the tournament in 2022.

In 2023, Shami also won the Purple Cap. He was brilliant in different phases of the game and deserved the honour. However, before IPL 2024, Shami had to undergo a surgery and hence, missed the competition. It is said that he played the 2023 ODI World Cup with pain. Sandeep Warrier replaced Mohammed Shami in the Gujarat Titans squad for the season.
