“Why was he selected? If they did select him, why was he dropped after just one match?”, Aakash Chopra raises his questions on the decision to leave out Suryakumar Yadav from the WTC final squad

Aakash Chopra, a former Indian cricketer, has spoken out against Suryakumar Yadav’s exclusion from Team India’s World Test Championship (WTC) final roster, which will be played at London’s Oval beginning on June 7.

The former cricket player turned analyst was taken aback by Yadav’s omission, given that he played in one Test in BGT. The 45-year-old felt that he should have been given more time to make his Test decision and thought the selectors should have given him more leeway.

Aakash Chopra questions the decision to leave out Suryakumar Yadav from the WTC final squad

Taking to Twitter, Aakash Chopra wrote: “Happy for Rahane. But how does the SKY inclusion-exclusion make sense?? Select kyon kiya…kar liya toh ek match ke baad drop kyon kiya? (Why was he selected? If they did select him, why was he dropped after just one match?)”

Suryakumar Yadav, for the uninitiated, made his Test debut in the first Test against Australia in Nagpur, where he managed to score just eight runs. Due to a current batting slump, he has been left out of the Test team. He had a recent streak of three consecutive duck innings during the home ODI series against Australia.

Also struggling for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2023, the 32-year-old scored 123 runs in six innings at an average of 20.50, with just one half-century.

Ishan Kishan, however, has been left off the WTC final roster after often serving as a series reserve during the BGT competition.

Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane has been included in India’s WTC final roster. This news comes as his IPL 2023 season is heating up, with 209 runs scored in five games at a remarkable strike rate of 199. In the most recent Ranji Trophy match, the right-handed batsman scored 191 runs against Assam.

The Mumbai batsman has a respectable track record in Tests played in England. In 15 Tests, he has amassed 729 runs, including a hundred and five fifty-plus scores. The 34-year-old has scored 884 runs in 12 Tests against Australia, with a 42.10 batting average. This includes two hundred and four half-centuries.
