Former Indian cricket team star Harbhajan Singh has slammed the team’s former selectors for not backing the 2011 World Cup heroes. In a recent interview with News18, Singh spoke at length about how the 2011 World Cup team did not receive more chances to play together.

The former Indian off-spinner felt no need to try new players when the old players were performing well. Harbhajan Singh clarified that he had nothing against the team’s former captain MS Dhoni or the BCCI, but he was unable to understand what made the selectors do what they did.

During his time as an active cricketer, Singh also had a confrontation with the selectors regarding the same. However, he did not receive a proper response from them. Here’s what Harbhajan had to say:

“I have no complaints against MS. In fact, he has been a good friend all these years. I have a complaint to the BCCI. The selectors of that time didn’t do justice to their roles. They didn’t allow the team to be united.”

“What was the point of bringing in new guys when the greats were still around and delivering?”- Harbhajan Singh

Further, Harbhajan Singh pointed out that it was ironic how the 2011 World Cup winners never got a chance to play together again despite being the world champions. In his honest opinion, many of them could have played in the 2015 World Cup also.

“It is ironical that the Champions of the 2011 team never played together again! Why? What was the point of bringing in new guys when the greats were still around and delivering?” Singh further questioned.

Lastly, Harbhajan concluded by speaking about how he had a chat with the selectors regarding this issue, but they replied to him that the decision was not in their hands. A perplexed Harbhajan then left by asking them then why were they doing the selectors’ job.

The 2011 World Cup squad had all bases covered. The team had fantastic openers, reliable middle-order batters, proper all-rounders, world-class captain, finisher, wicket-keeper, wicket-taking bowlers, and top-quality fielders. Thus, many fans may agree with Harbhajan that they deserved to play more cricket together.
