Yesterday, when KKR were chasing a huge target of 218 runs set by Rajasthan Royals at the Cricket Club of India (CCI), the KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer looked well set to see off the chase for his team.
Iyer was batting with such good intent and was targeting the bowlers so smartly that it was evident if Shreyas Iyer would continue batting for full 20 overs, KKR would most likely win the game.
Shreyas Iyer is one of those Indian players who don’t often lose their cool and remain calm and composed most of the time. But, during the chase last night, Shreyas lost his cool off the last ball of the 16th over of the innings and he had the legitimate reason to do so.
Venkatesh Iyer was another batsman who was batting with Shreyas and the required run rate at that time was manageable enough for everyone to anticipate a KKR win, if they kept wickets in hand and Shreyas Iyer, quite obviously, didn’t want to get dismissed at that point.
Shreyas Iyer was almost halfway down the pitch for the second run
Off the last ball of the 16th over, Venkatesh Iyer sliced it towards the deep point boundary and since it was the bigger side of the ground, Shreyas thought that Venkatesh would surely return for the second run, but Venkatesh was very tentative for the second and didn’t even call loudly.
It was lucky from KKR’s point of view that the throw was not quite an accurate throw, else Shreyas Iyer, with the kind of position he had got himself into, trying to come back for the second, would have got himself run out for sure. The KKR skipper totally lost his cool at Venkatesh Iyer for that and his voice could be heard loud through stump microphone.
Shreyas was extremely unhappy about the fact that Venkatesh didn’t try to come back for the second when there were two runs available because of that being the bigger side of the ground.

The game changed for KKR in the next over, however, as Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed 4 KKR batsmen in one single over to completely derail the chase for the men in purple. KKR lost the momentum and lost the game as well.
