The former Indian opener Virender Sehwag found himself baffled with the comment made by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Aiden Markam about Umran Malik ahead of the game against RCB last night. When Markram was asked at the toss why Umran has been kept out of the playing XI of SRH, Markram said he has no idea what’s going on “behind the scenes”.

Virender Sehwag was speaking in the post match show of Cricbuzz after SRH lost the game to RCB and when he was asked about Markram’s comment, Sehwag said that it’s beyond his understanding. Recalling his time as the mentor of Punjab Kings, Sehwag said that he always told his players that it doesn’t matter to him what they do “behind the scenes” and all that matters to him is what they do on the field.

Sehwag added that he has no idea what Markram might have meant with his “behind the scenes” comment. If Umran has some sort of issue with the SRH management, then it’s understandable that he is not playing, but otherwise his off the field life shouldn’t matter to anyone.

Apart from Sehwag, other former Indian cricketers also disappointed with Umran Malik being left out

Rohan Gavaskar, who was the co-analyst with Sehwag in the Cricbuzz studio, also said that Umran is the kind of cricketer who should be nurtured because he has got something that most of the other fast bowlers haven’t got. He can bowl at the speed of 150-155 kph, which is a natural gift and he should be nurtured rather than being kept out.

Earlier, the former Indian fast bowler Irfan Pathan had also expressed his disappointment at Umran Malik being kept out of the playing XI, saying that the express fast bowler hasn’t been handled well by the SRH management.

It remains to be seen if Umran gets his opportunity in the last league game of SRH or not. SRH has to play their last league game against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede stadium.
