The first signing for Royal Challengers Bangalore at IPL 2022 Auctions was Faf du Plessis. The South African, who was the second-highest run-getter in IPL 2021, received a lot of attention at the event. Faf’s former franchise Chennai Super Kings were also in for the cricketer and hence, the bid increased very quickly. Eventually, RCB signed the player at INR 7 Cr.

Considering RCB needed an experienced player to replace AB de Villiers, Faf was a decent fit for the franchise. Although not announced so far, there are reports that he could also become the captain of the team. RCB needs a strong top-order because there are very few experienced Indian batsmen in the squad. Therefore, the likes of Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli have to be in top form in IPL 2022. Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik should absorb the major responsibilities in the middle-order.
