Former cricketer Saba Karim believes that Mohammed Shami might make a comeback to India’s Twenty20 team for the forthcoming Twenty20 World Cup 2022 if Jasprit Bumrah is deemed ineligible for the competition.

While giving an interview to India News Sports, he said that Shami had an outstanding performance in this season’s Indian Premier League (IPL 2022). It was his opinion that the right-armer, who is a seasoned combatant, would be an excellent choice for the role of Bumrah’s successor.

He went on to say that Deepak Chahar would also be a good choice as an alternative, given his propensity to make early breakthroughs with the new ball.

What did Saba Karim say?

Karim elaborated as follows: “If Jasprit Bumrah has to be replaced, we need to think about finding someone with a lot of experience in Twenty20 cricket, as well as someone who has been doing well in the format in recent years. Because of their ability to take wickets with the new ball, Mohammad Shami and Deepak Chahar seem to be the leading candidates for that post. Shami had a successful IPL and was playing at a high level of fitness. If the selectors give him enough opportunities before the tournament, there is little doubt that he will be able to secure a spot in the starting eleven for the World Cup.”

Notable is the fact that Shami was the bowler for Gujarat Titans (GT) who took the most wickets during the championship run they had earlier this year. In the most recent iteration of the league, which awards a lot of money, he took 20 wickets over the course of 16 games and maintained a respectable economy rate of 8.00.

Because of a back ailment, Bumrah is unable to play at the moment, and his participation in the next Asia Cup in 2022 has also been ruled out. He is now attending the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to get rehabilitation services.
