“That’s Where CSK Got Stuck”- Sunil Gavaskar Feels MS Dhoni Playing Dot Balls Impacted CSK’s Chase Against PBKS

On a Super Sunday last night in IPL 2022, defending champions Chennai Super Kings locked horns with Punjab Kings. Fans expected a thrilling clash between the two franchises, but PBKS recorded a comfortable win in the end. Analyzing the match, former Indian cricket team captain Sunil Gavaskar gave his views on MS Dhoni’s batting performance.

The Chennai Super Kings got off to a horrendous start in a run-chase of 181 runs. They were down to 36/5, and the two batters in the middle were Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni. While Dube played attacking shots and completed his first fifty in CSK colors, Dhoni ensured that the Chennai-based franchise did not lose more wickets.

Dhoni scored 10 runs off his first 20 balls and then ended with 23 runs to his name off 28 balls. Speaking on Star Sports after the match between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings, Sunil Gavaskar said:

“With MSD, what you see is that even if he doesn’t start hitting the big ones, he is moving the strike along, getting those ones and twos. He wasn’t quite able to do that this time around. That’s where CSK got stuck just that little bit.”

Further, Gavaskar said that Dhoni could have focused more on rotating the strike, but he also admitted that when chasing a target of 181 runs and with five wickets down quickly, it is not easy even for the best batters from that situation.

“When you are looking to score 20 runs an over, that’s tough for the best of players, it’s not easy,” Gavaskar concluded.
