Shubman Gill failed in the first innings of the first Test at Centurion against South Africa. In the last few months, in red-ball cricket, Gill has not clicked. The rope may not be very long because there are candidates waiting for their chance in Test cricket. On that note, here, we take a look at three players who could replace Shubman Gill at No.3 in Tests from the next series.

1) Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad was initially a part of the squad before an injury ruled him out of the tournament. India’s next Test assignment will be against England at home. It might be the right time to experiment with Ruturaj at No.3.

It is a role that he has not played before. However, it appears that the management has high expectations from him. Hence, it would not be a surprise if he makes his debut soon.

2) Abhimanyu Easwaran

Abhimanyu Easwaran is one of the players who could replace Shubman Gill at No.3 in Tests from the next series. The West Bengal batter did well in the India A games and hence, he replaced Ruturaj Gaikwad in the squad for the South Africa Test series.

Abhimanyu has been doing well for a few years now. He has been selected to the Indian Team before but did not get a chance to make his debut. Abhimanyu might be more naturally suitable for the No.3 role. Hence, despite his age, India could still select him.

3) B Sai Sudharsan

B Sai Sudharsan recently made his India debut and looked very comfortable in South Africa. He also has the experience of playing County Cricket.
