Sarfaraz Khan has been statistically very impressive in numbers as far as first-class cricket is concerned. Whenever the Mumbai cricket team is in trouble, he often rises to the occasion by leading the batting attack by example.
The 25-year-old recently expressed his frustration after being overlooked for the Bangladesh Test series. When he scored a century in Ranji Trophy, he also met the selectors where he was promised that he would get a chance to feature in two Tests against Bangladesh.
However, in reality, the right-handed batter didn’t get a chance to play for India. Sarfaraz Khan has played 37 matches in first-class cricket wherein he scored 3505 runs at a staggering batting average of 79.65.
Notably, he has slammed 13 centuries and 9 half-centuries to his name. As far as his List A format is concerned, he scored 469 runs in 26 matches at an average of 39.08 including two centuries.
Sunil Gavaskar takes a swipe at selectors
Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar who is keeping a tab on the players’ performances in international and domestic cricket took a swipe at the Indian selectors after Sarfaraz Khan didn’t get a chance to represent the Indian cricket team.
The former Indian skipper didn’t hold back as he slammed the selectors by adding that Sarfaraz Khan is fit enough to play Test cricket. He further added that if the selectors want slim players, then they should go to a fashion show and pick some models.
The renowned commentator also went on to add saying that the selection should be based on runs and not size in the first place. Gavaskar’s comments come after Sarfaraz Khan was not selected for India’s Test squad even after giving it all in domestic cricket.
Some fans are of the view that Sarfaraz Khan might be included in the squad in the third cycle of the ICC World Test Championship.
Sunil Gavaskar said, "Sarfaraz Khan is fit to play cricket. If selectors want slim guys, they should go to a fashion show and select some models. Selection should be based on runs and not size". (To India Today).
