The 50th match of IPL 2022 is underway at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, where David Warner has destroyed the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling attack while playing for the Delhi Capitals. Warner opened the innings for DC after SRH won the toss and elected to bowl first. Bhuvneshwar Kumar started off with a wicket-maiden and dismissed Mandeep Singh in the first over.

However, Warner held one end and remained not out till the end. He scored 92 runs off 58 balls, smashing 12 fours and three sixes. He fell just eight runs short of his first century in IPL 2022.

Warner could have completed his century had Rovman Powell given him the strike in the last over, but Powell played all six balls bowled by Umran Malik and helped DC finish with a 207-run total. Speaking with the host broadcasters after the first innings, Powell said:

“I faced so many balls I got winded towards the end. I asked him if he wanted a single to get a hundred but he told me this isn’t how we play cricket and I should try to smack it as far as I can and as hard as I can and I did it.”

On the first ball of the 19th over, Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a wide yorker. David Warner tried to play a switch-hit, but he improvised and hit the ball towards the fine-leg fielder, which would have been third-man for the right-handed batter.

The ball beat the fielder and crossed the boundary line as Warner scored four runs for his team. Rovman Powell’s explosive finish ensured that DC finished with 207/3 in 20 overs even though the first over of the innings was a wicket maiden.
