Punjab Kings Take An Indirect Dig At KL Rahul After His 39-ball 36 Against Hong Kong

KL Rahul was the captain and main player of the Punjab Kings team in IPL 2020 and 2021. He won the Orange Cap award in IPL 2020, while he narrowly missed out on that award in the year 2021. Despite his best efforts, the Kings finished sixth on the points table in both the editions of the Indian Premier League.

Soon after IPL 2021, reports emerged that Rahul has decided to leave the Punjab Kings squad. The Lucknow Super Giants approached him and signed him for a massive INR 17 crore outside the IPL 2022 Auction. LSG named Rahul as their skipper for the 2022 IPL season, and under his captaincy, the team finished fourth in the tournament.

However, things have not been right for Rahul after the conclusion of IPL 2022. He has got multiple injuries and also tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of India’s tour of West Indies. Finally, he made his comeback in the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League series against the Zimbabwean cricket team.

Rahul looked a little rusty in that series as he could not score big. In Asia Cup 2022, Rahul got out for a duck in the first game against the Pakistan cricket team. Then, in the match against the Hong Kong cricket team today, he could score only 36 runs off 39 balls. All other Indian batters performed better than Rahul.

Punjab Kings posted a sarcastic tweet after KL Rahul got out against Hong Kong

KL Rahul hit a couple of a maximums in his 39-ball 36. He got out to a delivery from spin bowler Mohammad Ghanzafar as he edged the ball to the wicket-keeper batter SS Mckechnie. After the dismissal, Punjab Kings IPL franchise decided to give an update to the fans on Twitter and wrote:

“2nd blow for India, KL Rahul departs after a solid 36 off 39.”

Some fans were in splits after seeing that the Kings used the word ‘solid’ to describe the batting performance of Rahul.
