Brendon McCullum was one of the vital cogs of the New Zealand national cricket team during the heydays of his cricketing career. The former cricketer entertained the cricket fraternity with his very own “Bazball approach”.
The more he started to get aggressive, the more tougher it was for the bowlers to dismiss him. In fact, bowlers literally ran short of tricks and clues when Brendon McCullum started scoring runs at the rate of knots.
The former cricketer has scored 6453 runs in 101 Tests, 6083 runs in 260 ODIs and 2140 runs in 71 T20Is. Brendon McCullum is currently serving as the chief coach of England’s Test team.
Brendon McCullum’s son Riley plays for Northern Districts
Meanwhile, the former New Zealand cricketer’s son Riley made the headlines after he represented Northern Districts in the national under-19 tournament.
For the record, Riley’s dad, Brendon McCullum, Nathan (uncle) and Stu (grandfather) represented Otago. Now, Riley represents Northern Districts after the family shifted their base to Matamata, Waikato.
Interestingly, Riley’s parents namely Brendon McCullum and Ellissa watched their son play from a grass hill situated at Lincoln as Riley McCullum turned up for the national under-19 tournament this week.
Brendon’s son donned the jersey number 14 while taking the field. He is only 18 years old and still has plenty of years left in front of him to upgrade himself and become a better cricketer in the future.
The youngster expressed that he wants to follow his father’s footprints and if guided properly, he would go on to play the sport at the highest level and represent the New Zealand cricket team in the future.
While speaking to 1News, Riley McCullum also opened up on his dad’s much-important advice. To which, the lad said his father keeps telling him to not worry too much in the cricketing journey. Brendon McCullum told him that if he doesn’t score runs, runs will come eventually.
