Indian Premier League is the most-watched T20 league in the globe without the shadow of any doubt. It was launched in the year 2008 and since then, it has become a blockbuster hit among the fans of the cricket fraternity.
The IPL has by far completed fifteen editions since the inception of the IPL. Besides that, the league has been setting massive viewership records too. Currently, the fans are witnessing the sixteenth edition of the IPL.
The ongoing edition has already witnessed high-scoring encounters, low-scoring thrillers, nail-biting encounters and closely-fought contests, keeping the fans on the edge of their seats.
Lalit Modi claims IPL to overtake NFL to become World’s No.1 sporting league
Lalit Modi was the founder, first chairman and League Commissioner of the Indian Premier League in 2008. For the record, he supervised the tournament for three years until 2010 edition.
Following that, he saw the end of the road in his position as he was accused of misconduct, indiscipline and financial irregularities. Due to these charges, he got banned for life in 2013.
Amid the 15th edition of the IPL, Lalit Modi, while speaking to Cricbuzz claimed that IPL will go on to surpass NFL to become the No.1 sporting league in the world. For the record, NFL stands for National Football League.
It is an American football league which is played at the highest level. NFL comprises 32 teams, split into 2 conferences, namely American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC).
He further added that it is really incredible to see the IPL grow at a rapid pace and become the second biggest league in the world as far as the value is concerned. He said that in terms of viewership, IPL is ranked No 1.
It won’t be long before the IPL becomes the No. 1 league in any sport in the world. It is behind the NFL now, No. 2 currently. Going by the rate and speed of the IPL’s growth, that day is not too far – Lalit Modi.

Sometimes I feel for that guy, Lalit Modi. He is literally the founder of IPL.
He was sacked over financial irregularities but I don’t think sacking him made any changes, in fact it’s higher than earlier. He was just used as scapegoat by BCCI.Advertisement— Bhupender Thakur (@MisterBeeTee) May 1, 2023

NFL is watched by only US, Canada and few others with lifestyle ties to US. IPL also spans few countries and at the most cricket playing nations and UAE, that's all. May be someday AFC Championship will grow a bit if they market it like IPL because of the sheer population base.
