T20 World Cup 2021: Simon Doull picks team of the tournament, no place for Shaheen Shah Afridi
Simon Doull has picked Josh Hazlewood as one of the three seamers in his team
The former New Zealand fast bowler and renowned television commentator Simon Doull has come up with his team of the T20 World Cup 2021, based on the performances of the players in the super 12 round of the tournament.
Most of the picks in Doull’s team are straightforward ones including the opening pair of Babar Azam and Jos Buttler and also the sensational Sri Lankan youngster Charith Asalanka whom everyone took note of during the tournament.
But, one debatable pick that Simon Doull has gone with is Aiden Markram at no. 4. It’s not that Markram hasn’t played well, he has been very, very impressive batting at a difficult position for South Africa, but there were a couple of other contenders for that no. 4 slot as well. One was Markram’s South African teammate Rassie van der Dussen himself.
However, Doull thinks since Markram is someone who provides a bowling option as well and did well with both bat and ball during the tournament, he justifies his place.
Another slightly surprising call that Doull has made is he has left Shaheen Shah Afridi out of his team and has rather gone with Josh Hazlewood.
Josh Hazlewood has got some crucial wickets for Australia in T20 World Cup 2021
Hazlewood has got more wickets in his kitty as compared to Shaheen in this T20 World Cup, but the latter put on one of the best performances of the tournament in the match against India where he made a match-defining impact in his first couple of overs itself.
Also, if the number of wickets had to be taken into consideration, then Anrich Nortje has got more wickets than Hazlewood, but Doull has gone with the fast bowling trio of Hazlewood, Trent Boult and Haris Rauf.
Wanindu Hasaranga is the sole specialist spinner Doull has picked in his team and has slotted him at no. 8, while Moeen Ali is the spin all-rounder in the side.
