Fans on Twitter lashed out at New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson for his slow knock in the ongoing Super 12 game of the T20 World Cup 2022 against Austria at Sydney Cricket Ground. They expressed their disappointment by saying that the Black Caps captain should consider resting and giving opportunities to others.
Kane Williamson scored run a ball 23 runs against Australia to shift momentum towards the opposition
Australia and New Zealand are currently locking horns in the first game of the Super 12 stage. Asked to bat first, the Black Caps were off the flyer as Fin Allen came out all guns blazing and made a mockery of the Australian bowling attack.
He smashed Mitchell Starc for 14 runs in the first over and carried on the momentum. Allen played a fiery knock of 42 runs in just 16 balls. He along with Devon Conway stitched 56 runs for the opening partnership and gave New Zealand a staggering start.
However, after that skipper, Kane Williamson struggled in the middle and looked clueless. He played a slow inning of 23 runs and turned the momentum towards Australia. His innings put the Black Caps on the back foot. But thanks to Conway (92*) and Jimmy Neesham (26*), who played good innings and helped their side post a total of 200 runs on the board.
Fans on Twitter react after Kane Williamson’s slow knock against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground
As Kane Williamson was back in the hut after playing a slow knock, fans on Twitter lashed out at him for his innings. They suggested he rest himself and allow Martin Guptill to play. Here are some of the reactions:
Kane should consider relaxing in the dugout and let Guptill open with Conway at 3. He’s sucked all the momentum out of the Allen innings.

In the last 12 month, Kane Williamson's batting average in the middle overs (7-15) in T20Is is 57 but strike-rate is only 116. He puts a heavy price on his wicket. A high-risk strategy cos if you or others fails to accelerate at the end, your team can be 10-20 runs short. #AusvNZ
