Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were one of the most fancied teams when the IPL first started and the kind of show they put on in the very first match of IPL’s history, it seemed at that time that this team will be one of the most successful teams in the tournament, but after that first match, KKR struggled in the IPL for three years straight.
However, the golden period of Kolkata Knight Riders was the period between 2011 and 2014 when they won two IPL titles under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir. One of the major things that KKR did well during that period was they signed good players and didn’t hang onto the non-performers for a long time. But, KKR’s recruitment hasn’t been great after Gautam Gambhir’s departure as captain.
Here are the 3 players KKR might release during the IPL 2023 trading window –
Sheldon Jackson
Sheldon Jackson has been one of the most impressive and consistent players in the domestic circuit of India, but he hasn’t got as many IPL opportunities as he would have liked to, so far in his career.
Jackson was given the opportunity to play a few games by the Knight Riders during the last IPL season, but he couldn’t make full use of that and currently his IPL contract with the Knight Riders seems to be hanging in balance. He might be one of the players to be traded off by the franchise during this window.
Baba Indrajith
Baba Indrajith’s case has also been pretty much like Sheldeon Jackson, as he is also a consistent domestic batsman who can keep wickets, but the thing with both Jackson and Indrajith is that they are more suited to the longer versions of the game than the big hitting of T20 cricket. One shouldn’t be surprised if Baba Indrajith is also traded off to some other IPL franchise by the Knight Riders management.
Aaron Finch
Aaron Finch is although a very successful T20I batsman and currently the captain of Australia’s T20I team, his personal form with the bat hasn’t been great over the last couple of years and the fact that he couldn’t fire with the bat in the last IPL either might prompt Kolkata Knight Riders to try and move on from him and trade him off during this trading window.
