If this was not enough, to hamper India’s chances more, Deepak Chahar also suffered a back injury and was deemed unfit to play in the upcoming World Cup. Although he was not a part of the main squad but was in contention to replace Jasprit Bumrah and was in the standby list also.

Following the injuries of the Indian players, BCCI has received a skewering for not managing the workload of the players and also many fans and former cricketers have lashed out at the Indian players for playing all the games in IPL and missing crucial games for the national side.

“BCCI President, if needed, should ask IPL franchises to rest a particular player for some matches so that he is fit to play for India. Then take that forward to the franchise. In no way getting in the way of the franchise, but in a nice way telling them that he’s an important player for India. National interest is paramount.”

“You’ve got to look at it very seriously, as to why it is happening,” Ravi Shastri on Indian players getting injured

Following the injury of some key Indian players, National Cricket Academy (NCA) has also come under scanner as many have pointed fingers towards it and questioned their rehabilitation programmes.

Shastri also said that BCCI needs to take this things seriously and intervene in why is this happening. Adding to his point, he said:

“It was the most frustrating thing for me as (India coach), when you lose key players to injuries. We toured England and New Zealand twice. On all those tours, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was injured, where he’d have got a bagful of wickets with his skills. Now, you see (Deepak) Chahar has hardly played, and he’s injured. I was looking at the stats. Bumrah has played 5 matches since the last T20 World Cup and he’s injured. So, you’ve got to look at it very seriously, as to why it is happening.”

India is yet to name replacement for Jasprit Bumrah and it remains to be seen who will make cut into the main team. So far, Mohammad Shami and Mohammed Siraj are the front runners to replace him.
