The CSK opener Devon Conway, who played a match-winning knock of 87 in the last night’s IPL game against Delhi Capitals, revealed after the game that it was the CSK skipper MS Dhoni who had asked him to run down the pitch against the spinners and hit them straight, rather than sweeping the ball a lot.

Devon Conway is one of the best sweepers of the ball in world cricket at the moment and since he plays that shot well, he doesn’t shy away from playing it in any format or on any kind of surface, but in the game against RCB where Conway was playing extremely well, he had got out trying to play a sweep shot.

In that game, Conway had actually hit some boundaries with the sweep shot as well, but then RCB strategically placed the field for that shot and Conway ended up getting holed out at the deep square leg boundary trying to play the sweep shot again.

MS Dhoni told me bowlers are going to bowl fuller to you: Devon Conway

Conway said in the post-match interview after the game against DC that MS Dhoni told him after the last game that the bowlers might try to bowl fuller to him knowing his strength of playing the sweep shot, so rather than trying to sweep, he should consider running down the pitch and hitting the spinners over the top.

Devon Conway hit four sixes using his feet and running down the pitch against DC and only one of his sixes was hit off the sweep shot. Conway particularly took a liking to DC’s wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav who had been in good form in the tournament before last night’s game.

With Conway completely nullifying Kuldeep and smashing him all around the park, it put DC in a tricky situation as they had to turn to their 6th bowler Mitchell Marsh for a couple of overs.
