Virat Kohli savoured a phenomenal run in the recently concluded T20 World Cup where he finished as the highest run-scorer of the tournament with 296 runs at a stunning average of 98 plus. He belted four half-centuries along his way to the Promised Land before India crashed out of the T20 World Cup following a defeat at the hands of England.
He started the campaign with a boisterous 82 against Pakistan that saw him almost single-handedly ushering India across the finish line and then followed it up with another barnstorming half-century against Netherlands. Despite a rare flop against South Africa, he was back in runs against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. He finished the tournament on a high, carving a well-fought half-century against England.
Here is what Ricky Ponting had to say about Virat Kohli
England would eventually go onto lift the T20 World Cup, thanks to a rampant display from Ben Stokes, who would rise up on another very special occasion to help England clinch the T20 World Cup. Sam Curran bagged the Player of the Tournament for his overwhelming contribution with 13 wickets.
Former Australian captain, Ricky Ponting, however, was intransigent to ICC’s decision of awarding Curran the big prize. Punter was vocal about the fact that for him it was Virat Kohli who should have been awarded the Player of the Tournament.
Virat bagged the ICC Player of the Month award for October and a few special words. He said, “It is a great honour for me to have been voted the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for October. Being chosen as the standout player by fans across the globe as well as the panel makes this accolade even more special for me.”
Twitter couldn’t agree more as they wanted Kohli to be awarded this special award after everything that he has done for the Men in Blue including a special showdown against Pakistan.
