The childhood coach of the Indian wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav has heaped praise on the current Indian captain Rohit Sharma and has said that Rohit is the reason why the resurgence of Kuldeep’s career has been possible, as Rohit has backed his ability and kept a close eye on his fitness.

In an exclusive interview given to Times of India, Kuldeep’s coach revealed that Kuldeep has been supported a lot by his current Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant and coach Ricky Ponting as well. Because of Kuldeep’s recent dip in form, Delhi were the only team which placed a bid for Kuldeep in the IPL mega auction and since no other team was interested in him, the Capitals were able to buy Kuldeep at his base price itself.

What’s interesting about Kuldeep Yadav is that he was first brought into the Indian set-up along with Yuzvendra Chahal and was given regular playing opportunities by the former Indian captain Virat Kohli, but was then dropped soon after he had a run of bad games.

Kuldeep Yadav didn’t get as long a run in the Indian side as his partner Yuzvendra Chahal

Kuldeep’s other wrist spinning partner Yuzvendra Chahal got a slightly longer run in the national set-up, but it was because his performances were slightly better as compared to Kuldeep as well. However, there were also a few reports that Kuldeep had been sidelined because of his fitness and yo-yo scores.

As soon as Rohit Sharma became the captain of India, Kuldeep got a couple of playing opportunities back again in white ball cricket for India and although he didn’t set the stage ablaze, there was a clear message by the new Indian team management that Kuldeep was back in their plans.

In the ongoing IPL right now, Kuldeep is among the top 3 leading wicket takers at the moment and his current form makes him a contender for a spot in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year. However, it remains to be seen if his selection eventually happens.
