Daily Mail, one of the leading publications of England, has reported that the England white ball opener Jason Roy has been offered 30 crore INR contract for 2 years by Los Angeles Knight Riders to play in the Major League Cricket (MLC) in America.
Jason Roy is expected to accept the offer and turn down the central contract that has to be offered to him by the England Cricket Board (ECB). Los Angeles Knight Riders is a subsidiary of the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders. The Knight Riders group also owns a team in the UAE T20 league named Abu Dhabi Knight Riders.
The timing of the inaugural edition of Major League Cricket and England’s own home season collides and whichever cricketer is binded by ECB’s central contract can’t play the full season of MLC. The value of the contract that has been offered to Jason Roy by the Knight Riders group is probably too big for him to turn down the offer.
Jason Roy played for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2023
Jason Roy played for the Knight Riders in the ongoing season of the IPL as well and although he was not as consistent as he would have liked to be, he still played a couple of thunderous knocks at the top of the order for KKR.
While Roy and the Knight Riders group themselves have not confirmed the news of a 30-crore contract being offered to the player for 2 years, the picture is supposed to be clearer in a couple of days.
Roy might not be the only England cricketer who turns down ECB’s central contract to play in Major League Cricket. There might be others too in the coming weeks, simply because of the schedule which is set up in a way where MLC is in direct collision with England’s home summer. Since MLC is offering lucrative contracts, it’s hard for the white ball cricketers to resist.
