“I’ve Never Been The Main Player In A Team”- Karun Nair Opines On His Career’s Rise And Fall

Karun Nair became the talking point of the entire cricketing fraternity after he scored a triple century for the Indian cricket team in a Test match against the England cricket team at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai during the 2016/17 season. However, Nair failed to make it big after that knock.

Nair has played IPL regularly after that, but he has not made a huge impact. In a recent interaction ahead of IPL 2022, Nair spoke about the reason why his career has had so many ups and downs.

He joked that whenever he scored runs, someone else scored more runs than him which is why not many fans noticed his contributions. Here’s what he had to say in a release issued by Rajasthan Royals:

“In my opinion, the reason behind that is that I’ve never been the kind of a main player in a team in T20 cricket. If you see, whenever I score runs, there’s someone else who scores better in the same match (laughs).”

Karun Nair seriously explains why people don’t see him as a T20 specialist

Then, on a serious note, Karun Nair added that the fans do not see him as a specialist in the shortest format of the game because his role has frequently changed. Sometimes, he plays as a top-order batter, whereas sometimes he is asked to play in the middle-order.

Looking at the overall numbers of Karun in the Indian Premier League so far, the right-handed batter has played 66 innings. In 16 out of them, he has played as an opening batter. He batted at number three 19 times, while in 22 innings, he has played at number four.

He has batted nine times in either number five or number six. The numbers clearly hint that Nair has not received a proper role. It will be interesting to see how RR use him in IPL 2022.
