Team India were miles ahead in terms of their overall performances against Australia in the first Test match at VCA Stadium in Nagpur. Rightly so, they were able to bring the best out of themselves when it mattered the most.

The hosts won the Test opener by an innings and 132 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the series. They will have to win the Border Gavaskar Trophy series by an optimal margin of 3-1 in order to secure a spot in the ICC WTC final.

On the other side of the coin, Aussies are still on top of the ICC WTC points table. However, they suffered their only second defeat in the second cycle of the ICC World Test Championship.

Meanwhile, the visitors will be looking forward to coming up with a better plan for the second Test in order to level the series and it won’t be that easy for them. India haven’t lost a game in Delhi since 1987 and it is a record that they would try their maximum best to protect.

Shreyas Iyer is unlikely to play the 2nd Test against Australia

There is still no uncertainty regarding Shreyas Iyer’s availability for the second Test match against Australia. It seems that Iyer is yet to get a fitness clearance from the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

Iyer was ruled out of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand recently due to an injury and is currently nursing the injury at the NCA. As reported by PTI, Shreyas Iyer is unlikely to feature for Team India in the second Test match as well.

It gives another opportunity for Suryakumar Yadav to prove his worth after failing to make his presence count in the first innings of the first Test in Nagpur. Suryakumar fell prey to Nathan Lyon’s sensational delivery as he was clean bowled.

Surya made his way back to the dugout after scoring just 8 runs. He might be given one more chance to express himself in the second Test which will be held on February 17 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
