Team India have long been criticized for their inability to produce a spark in the ICC tournaments for quite a long time now. It’s been a decade since India last won the ICC title. The Men in Blue last won the title back in 2013.
It was under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, Team India beat England in England to win the ICC Champions Trophy. Since then, the Indian cricket team failed to make a bid for the ICC title.
However, they have a great chance to win the third title this time around. The upcoming ODI World Cup will be held entirely in India for the first time in history. The marquee event is slated to be held in the October-November.
It is expected to commence on October 5. A report in Cricbuzz stated that India will lock horns with Pakistan in the blockbuster clash on October 15. The same report added that India will play their opening World Cup 2023 fixture against Australia as Chennai will be hosting the top clash.
Narendra Modi Stadium will host the first match and final of World Cup 2023
For the record, the world’s largest cricket stadium called the Narendra Modi Stadium will be hosting the first match and the final of World Cup 2023 tournament.
The inaugural match of the World Cup in India will be played between England cricket team and New Zealand cricket team on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
On the other hand, the final is scheduled to be played at the same venue on November 19. Team India won their first ODI World Cup in 1983 under the astute leadership traits of Kapil Dev.
Under his captaincy, India made it all the way to the finals of the competition and defeated the West Indies to win the maiden title. After 28 long years, India went on to win the second World Cup title under the captaincy of MS Dhoni in the 2011 edition.
